The Leader in Me

Seven Hills Families,

In August, The Greatest School on Earth opened its doors as a designated Leader in Me school, and we are so proud of all that our students and staff have accomplished in such a short period of time. Our Stars have shown tremendous growth in leadership and character. Seven Hills is still very much at the beginning of our journey with The Leader in Me (TLIM).  We still have a lot of growing to do, but we are confident that our students and staff will continue to develop a deep understanding of the 7 Habits, learning how the skills and strategies apply to school and personal lives and how the habits help shape each one of us as unique leaders.

Ongoing staff development opportunities are important to our success.  All staff are able to attend annual staff development with experts from Franklin Covey, and some staff members have an opportunity to attend the annual Leader in Me Symposium in Dallas. Symposium is a two day event where attendees gather to listen and share their experiences with The Leader in Me. Part of Symposium includes breakout learning sessions presented by Leader in Me schools and Franklin Covey.  Symposium also included site visits to local Leader in Me schools. On day two of the conference, attendees board buses to selected TLIM schools to see leadership in action!

We are so proud, honored and positively ECSTATIC to share our BIG NEWS!! Seven Hills applied for some of these honors and we were chosen to share our story in the following ways:

  • Franklin Covey offers small community event opportunities for interested schools to get a “sneak peek” of Symposium and what it means to be a Leader in Me school through Community Overview Events. The event is design to generate interest in the program.  In December, Seven Hills opened its doors to 15 – 20 guests from Northwest ISD and other surrounding districts for a Community Overview Event.  During this event, our Stars greeted guests and lead them on tours of the school.  The opportunity to host an event such as this within 4 months of beginning our journey was an incredible honor.  Representatives from Franklin Covey commented that our campus looked like a school that had been implementing The Leader in Me for over a year!  Wow!  Since the event, we have been contacted by several campuses from surrounding districts for an opportunity to continue to share our story.

  • Mrs. Blackburn, Mrs. Sample, and Ms. Q were selected to present a breakout session for conference attendees. We will present our journey with transforming campus events to have a leadership focus.  We will share details about Leadership Rallies, Star Leader Awards, and family leadership nights such as “Leading Under the Big Top” and “7 in ’17…Bringing the Habits Home”.

  • Seven Hills was selected as a school site visit! On Feb. 2nd, we will open our doors to approximately 20-50 guests in the morning. Students will greet guests, deliver a program on leadership at Seven Hills, and lead groups on tours of our school to highlight our work this year.   We are “over the moon” excited to receive this honor in our first year of implementation!  This honor really does highlight the fact that we are “The Greatest School on Earth!”

We are very proud and looking forward to continuing to represent our school community in such a public and positive way.  We know that “GREAT happens here,” and we cannot wait to share the greatness with others!

Please note, we will be asking that all students wear their Seven Hills “Greatest School on Earth” shirts on Thursday, February 2, 2017 for the Symposium Site Visit.

Together We Lead,
